To bring a successful claim in professional negligence against a solicitor or barrister, you will need to show that:

The solicitor or barrister owed you a duty of care.
The duty of care was breached, i.e. they did something wrong.
The breach of the duty of care caused you financial loss. If you suffered losses for some reason other than the negligent advice, then you would not have a claim.
