Some examples of engineer’s negligence include:

Preparing unsuitable drawing and design plans;
Failing to follow recommended industry standards;
Providing negligent engineering advice;
Causing a structural failure;
Failing to properly problem solve; and
Providing wrong structural calculations in building projects.

As with all claims of that nature, a financial loss as a result of the engineer’s negligence and/or breach of contract will need to be shown. Without a financial loss, there is no claim.

Claims against engineers can be brought under various acts such as Defective Premises Act 1972 and Contractual (Design and Management) Regulations 1994.
